The Multimodal Intelligence team, part of Microsoft’s Core Artificial Intelligence (AI) organization, empowers developers and applied scientists across the globe to easily integrate AI capabilities—such as processing documents, videos, images, and other file types—into their applications.
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Applied Machine Learning, deep expertise in Python programming and system design, and hands-on experience building large-scale, high-volume cloud services. Proven success in solving complex challenges in Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Artificial Intelligence is essential. Familiarity with Large Language Models and Agent frameworks is a strong plus.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
