Coordinates work flow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area
Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in absence of supervisor or Lead MT Distribution and Transportation:
Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens
Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens Specimen Handling & Processing:
Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens Communication:
Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers Customer Service
Uses AIDET as applicable
Attends CARES training.
When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers.
Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner Employee Relations:
Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees Reporting/Recordkeeping:
Assures department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner
Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives
Assures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control Education:
Assists with training of students and new employees
Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills
Stays abreast of regulatory changes Regulation:
Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines
Complies with appropriate Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues Adheres to College of American Pathologist (CAP) & Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards
Job Knowledge
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field; required
ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, required within 12 months after incumbent’s graduation form an accredited Medical Technology Program. NOTE: If ASCP certification has recently lapsed, employee will have 90 days to complete continuing education and recertification requirements.
Valid Mississippi Driver’s License and acceptable driving record/history; preferred
Proficient skills with LIS; required
Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; required Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; required
