Job Summary
The Medical Technologist Lead at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for assisting the supervisor with scheduling, quality control, maintenance programs, and work flow organization. This role also includes ensuring the accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens while adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.
Supervision
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates work flow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area.
- Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in absence of supervisor or Lead MT. Distribution and Transportation:
- Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens.
- Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens. Specimen Handling & Processing:
- Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
- Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens.
Communication
- Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.
Customer Service
- Uses AIDET as applicable.
- Attends CARES training.
- When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers.
- Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner. Employee Relations:
- Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.
Reporting/Recordkeeping
- Assures department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives.
- Assures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control.
Education
- Assists with training of students and new employees.
- Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills.
- Stays abreast of regulatory changes.
Regulation
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.
- Complies with appropriate Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues.
- Adheres to College of American Pathologist (CAP) & Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field. Required
Licenses and Certifications
- ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State
Work Experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Proficient skills with LIS
- Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills
- Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; Prioritize and organize daily work demands of area
- Evaluating processes and equipment for optimal organization and performance
- Communicates effectively
- Provides excellent service to internal and external customers
- Assuring quality control is acceptable and required maintenance is completed daily in work area
- Must have extensive contact with: Pathology Department and hospital staff (including physicians)
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Must reflect a positive, caring attitude toward clients, patients, staff and the public we serve
