We are seeking to appoint a new Research Assistant to support our growing programme in tumour immunology and liver cancer.

As part of this role, you will be responsible for the provision of research support for our preclinical work in hepatocellular carcinoma, providing advice and guidance to research students where appropriate. You will contribute to the wider research by supporting day-to-day experimental work, including molecular biology, flow cytometry and cell culture. You will be assisting in the development and maintenance of pre-clinical in vivo models of HCC and coordinating with the Biological Services Unit and work in compliance with ethical regulations.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to scientific reports and journal articles and the presentation of data/papers at conferences.
  • Determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses, and identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise.
  • Responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables.
  • Ensuring laboratory organisation and adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.
  • Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone.
  • Contribute to discussions and share research findings with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.

It is essential that hold a degree in a relevant biological science (e.g. immunology, molecular biology, cancer biology, biomedical sciences) and able to demonstrate specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes. Similarly, you will have proven experience in standard wet laboratory techniques, including pipetting, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and cell culture and familiarity with in vivo work.
