Job Summary:

This important leadership role will be responsible for building a motivated and high-performing team accountable for Business Planning & Performance across NRG Consumer in Canada. The portfolio will focus on driving business performance improvement through enhanced analytics, actionable insights, decision support, and rigorous accountability. The role supports both Regulated and Competitive customer portfolios across all Canadian brands, ensuring accurate forecasting and performance monitoring. This leader will also be responsible for talent development, succession planning, and improving employee engagement and performance.

The Director will work cross-functionally across the NRG enterprise to lead scenario modeling, planning cycles, and performance reporting while helping shape the organization’s strategic direction. This role will lead OPEX and CAPEX planning for Canada and contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing bad debt, improving cash flow, and enhancing earnings per share (EPS). This role also serves as the key liaison into the Corporate Finance function for North America.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performance team with a strong focus on talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement.
  • Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual planning and performance reporting for Canada Home, ensuring timely and insightful analytics to support decision-making.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to help shape business to deliver future growth through insight & analytics.
  • Develop and maintain Canada Home’s valuation model, including quarterly updates, opportunity/risk evaluation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Build valuation models to run scenario modelling for EBITDA.
  • Deliver consolidated financial performance reporting (Power BI) for regulated and competitive businesses, integrating forward-book forecasts, margin performance, and market movements.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of forecasting and valuation models:
  • Regulated/Competitive margin model (with input transparency, variance analysis, sensitivity testing)
  • Internal COA (Cost of Acquisition), COR (Cost of Retention), CTS (Cost to Serve), and CLV (Customer Lifetime Value) models.
  • Build and maintain Canada Home’s cash forecasting processes.
  • Lead CAPEX planning across the Canadian portfolio.
  • Support DEML/US inter-affiliate financial governance and ensure compliance with all corporate policies.
  • Preemptively assess risks and opportunities within each portfolio; develop mitigation or acceleration plans as required.
  • Deliver insights on customer behavior (e.g., payment patterns, churn risk, lifetime value) to drive commercial and operational actions.
  • Support assessments of M&A opportunities in collaboration with corporate and regional teams.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or related quantitative field.
  • MBA, CFA, CPA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in retail energy, pricing, financial modeling, or strategy roles.
  • Advanced modeling skills including NPV, scenario analysis, and financial forecasting.
  • Proficient in financial modelling, valuation (DCF, ROI, etc), risk management and KPI management.
  • Expertise in Excel and PowerPoint; strong proficiency in SQL required.
  • Familiarity with Python, R, or data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and advanced analytic/forecasting tools
  • Deep understanding of Canada’s deregulated energy markets.
  • Deep understanding in upstream, upstream power and gas and impact on retail portfolios.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence across organizational levels.
  • Strong business acumen, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, matrixed environments with competing priorities.
  • Research driven mindset that is anchored in curiosity, learning, and balanced with excellent analytical, problem solving and project management/organization skills.
  • Strong work ethic, with an effective combination of business acumen, sound decision-making, and a bias for action; ability to act in a decisive, urgent, and committed way to achieve results; remain focused on deliverables and leverage resources to reach goals.
  • Comfortable working in a growth environment, collaborating with a new team and providing recommendations on improving existing processes.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong experience in value creation, strategic planning, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Track record of successfully leading high-impact initiatives and process transformations.
  • Excellent collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignment on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Preferred experience with subscription-based businesses (retail energy, protection plans, renewable energy, insurance, cable, internet, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in financial planning and analysis at Director level.
  • Deep operational understanding of Alberta’s deregulated energy market.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities/Position requires employee to work using a laptop/computer screen

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid environment (office and home)
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise
  • Some travel <20%
