The David C. Frederick Honors College (FHC) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Director of Marketing and Communications to lead and oversee the development and execution of all marketing, communications, and branding strategies to enhance the goals of and to drive enrollment and retention of the FHC student body. This senior leadership role will be responsible for shaping the messaging of and managing internal and external communications and ensuring a cohesive and effective marketing approach across all platforms. The Director will work closely the Recruiter for Special Populations to ensure we are promoting the mission, values, and programs of the FHC. This targeted approach is necessary to address the unique needs, interests, and concerns of a new Scholar Cohort within FHC. To effectively market to these groups, the FHC must develop inclusive, empathetic, and tailored marketing strategies.
The successful candidate will have experience in higher education and/or honors education marketing and communications, proven ability to lead, manage and mentor, strong writing and editing skills, excellent written and verbal communications, digital marketing experience, and public relations.
Leads team and develops, implements, and facilitates communications strategies and outreach. Translates strategic and tactical business plans into procedures that achieve goals, visions, and branding. Creates, administers, and adheres to budget. Oversees communications and ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
Essential Functions
Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with FHC goals, vision, and values. Provide leadership and direction for the marketing and communications team, fostering a collaborative and creative environment. Work with senior leadership to define strategic priorities and position the FHC as a leader in Honors education. Collaborate with the university’s brand identity and ensure consistent messaging across all marketing materials, campaigns, and communications channels. Lead the development and execution of marketing campaigns to promote academic programs, research, student life, and university achievements. Ensure the FHC’s brand is reflected in all internal and external communications, including print, digital, social media, and public relations efforts. Lead marketing and communications initiatives designed to increase student enrollment, with a particular focus on attracting high achieving undergraduate students for the FHC and its new scholar cohort. Collaborate with FHC Admissions department to develop targeted campaigns that engage prospective students and highlight the strengths and opportunities of being a part of the FHC. Oversee the development and execution of digital marketing strategies, including website management, email marketing, SEO/SEM, and social media campaigns. Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of digital marketing efforts, adjusting strategies to increase engagement, traffic, and conversions. Manage the FHC’s social media presence and lead efforts to increase follower engagement and visibility across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube. Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the marketing and communications budget, ensuring the efficient use of resources and that projects are completed on time and within budget. Prioritize marketing and communications projects based on FHC goals and available resources. Content Creation and Storytelling: Direct the creation of compelling content (e.g., blogs, articles, videos, and social media posts) that highlights the FHC’s programs, research, staff, students, and alumni. Develop and manage content calendars for marketing and communications activities, ensuring that all messaging aligns with the FHCs strategic priorities and the Plan for Pitt. Lead the creation of print and digital marketing materials, such as brochures, newsletters, annual reports, and other publications. Develop and distribute newsletters, email communications, and other internal content to foster a sense of community and promote FHC culture. Collaborate with university communications and marketing partners to ensure internal communications align with external messaging.Track and report on the effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts, including metrics for web traffic, social media engagement, enrollment trends, and media coverage. Analyze data to refine and improve marketing strategies.
Physical Effort
Candidate must be able to sit or stand for an extended period of time. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Able to participate in evening and weekend events as required.
