Job Description:
The Commercial Insurance Division of Everest Insurance Company of Canada is looking for an Underwriting Assistant II to join the Underwriting Operations Team of our Toronto, Ontario office.
As a key member of this team, you will provide transactional underwriting support for multiple underwriting segments, products, and lines of business (e.g., Property, Energy and Construction, Aviation, Cyber, Surety, Marine, Casualty, Automobile, Financial lines, Programs, etc.). You will be accountable for the management of underwriting documentation, transaction processing, collaborating with the underwriting team on a regular basis and pro-actively and effectively communicating with our brokers to ensure that all information is accurate, complete, and up to date with respects to the underwriting process and Everest issued policy documents.
Responsibilities include:
- NEW BUSINESS, RENEWALS AND ENDORSEMENTS
- Manage daily underwriting processing of accounts through Everest’s policy quote and issuance system
- Construct policy for underwriting review
- Management of renewal cycle; gather and preparation of renewal files
- Coordinate loss runs with Claims and provide loss runs to underwriters and brokers if required
- If the file is loss free, communicate directly with broker for renewal information (updated exposure info, total insured values, etc.) as assigned or directed by Underwriter
- Issue all new, renewal and endorsement policy documents and deal with brokers as needed on documentation queries
- Prepare, compile, and base rate new and renewal files for underwriters
Additional duties as needed:
- Review and prep referrals to underwriters as needed and issue certificates of insurance
- Issue registered letters of cancellation / reinstatement
- Generate and prepare business reports as directed which may involve some analysis
- Completion of M&S Insurance to Value calculators and pull Experian and other reports
- Ordering of loss control reports per guidelines and as directed by underwriter
- Review of property valuation data as needed
- Special projects and other duties or responsibilities as assigned
- Work on underwriting bordereaux, CAT exposures, etc.
SKILLS, REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience as a commercial underwriting assistant is preferred
- Working knowledge of Property and Casualty and related Lines of Business preferred
- Quick learner and dedication to self-improvement and development is important
- Strong oral and written communication, analytical and computer skills
- Ability to build and maintain excellent relations with brokers and provide superior service
- Team oriented and ability to work effectively with peers
- Strong time management and prioritization skills to meet daily demand and deadlines to fulfill all service requirements
- CIP designation or actively working towards completion of CIP courses
- Bilingual in (French and English is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is mandatory – Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
