The State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) - Global Head of Data, Analytics & AI Services (GHDAAIS) is seeking to hire a Principal Data Scientist, Assistant Vice President at Hangzhou office. This role will play a key role in leading the solution delivery of AI technology services provided to the Global Advisors business at State Street. The role will be an important player in the DAAIS for AI services supporting the COO’s organizational delivery of the technology platforms in a federated model to Global Advisors, State Street, and our clients. The role will function as the GenAI specialist and solution lead for GenAI related services working closely with the State Street affiliates, Global Technology Services (GTS) and other third-party vendors used within the SSGA ecosystem globally. The role and the team will provide GenAI architectural solution to the COO’s delivery of technology platforms and services according to the GTS architectural standards and operate under a federated operating model to deliver against a target end state AI ecosystem blueprint. In addition, the role needs to adopt GTS AI related technology, risk, security, and data governance standards.

This is a principal data scientist role for candidate who has very strong hands-on GenAI solution design and development experience, as well as strong team collaboration skills and leadership. The candidate should have rich experience of GenAI application development. The candidate has 5+ years of experience in asset management. This is someone who also has demonstrable leadership in developing service-oriented model solution, has delivered enterprise platform and/or commercialized AI product. The candidate has excellent technical and problem-solving skills, someone with creativity and self-motivation to deliver on mission critical projects with tight timelines and competing priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small agile team to deliver highly effective GenAI solution to meet our fast-changing business and client needs, collaborate with global teams to execute on global projects and keep improving model solution and GenAI best practices.
  • Adopt various modern AI tools to design and develop AI solution and disrupt traditional AI development approach and improve overall productivity.
  • Become subject matter expert in GenAI/LLM model evaluation, benchmarking, solution design, development, and validation, as well as agentic AI architecture and implementation.
  • Integrate, customize, and train known LLMs and agentic frameworks to solve financial problem, perform validation, and fix bugs.
  • Drive model rationalization, reusability, scalability and implement modern MLOps and model observability.
  • Write model specification about problem statement, assumption, data input, methodology, implementation framework, and test result; work with external Model Validation group and implement changes for go-live.
  • Support IT integration, QA/UAT and deployment of AI micro services, operationalizing and productizing resulting models and AI solutions.
  • Support production issue pertinent to model and algorithm including the ones used in open-source libraries if any.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required (preferably in computer science, financial mathematics, and financial engineering), PhD preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with GenAI solution, hardcore development experience with known LLMs (OpenAI ChatGPT, Llama, Mistral, Claude, or DeepSeek), Agentic AI technologies like MCP, prior experience with RAG, Text2SQL, fine tuning, distillation, and responsible AI framework integration.
  • 8+ years of hands-on coding experience with foundational AI/ML algorithms and familiar with deep learning neural network like various supervise and unsupervised models and familiar with natural language processing algorithms like underlying transformer and attention mechanisms.
  • 8+ years of modern, object-oriented or functional programming and design experience (Python, Java) and proficient in AI code generation tools like GitHub Co-pilot/Cursor.
  • Proficient in public cloud development environment and could native products such as Azure ML, Azure AI Foundry, Snowflake, Databricks Mosaic, or AWS Bedrock/Sagemaker.
  • Familiar with major financial instrument, reference data, market data, investment and risk management concept.
  • Fluent with English and Mandarin; Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all stakeholder levels across multiple countries.
  • Result driven, detail oriented, candid attitude.

Any of the following is highly desirable:

  • GenAI/LLMs, Data Science and Machine Learning Frameworks (Anthropic, MCP, Agentic AI, RAG, Text2SQL, Vectorized DB, Agentic Flow management frameworks like LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, LangChain, LlmaIndex).
  • Prior data scientist role in financial institution and model validation experience.
  • Prior risk and investment management experience in asset management industry.
  • Structured and unstructured data management tools (Snowflake, Databricks, PGVector, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, etc.).
  • Passed Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) level II or equivalent.
