TITLE: School-Based Instructional Coach

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Holds a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate and a Supervisor of Instruction or Consultant Certification
  2. Has a minimum of five years successful experience in the classroom
  3. Holds a Master’s degree
  4. Has demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community
  5. Has extensive knowledge of national standards, the KY Program of Studies, Core Content for Assessment, and the state assessment and accountability systems
  6. Has extensive practitioner knowledge of research-based, best practice instructional strategies and possesses the skills to search for and access additional information
  7. Has extensive knowledge of the change process and the ability to explain, promote, and support teachers in understanding the need for change in the instructional program
  8. Has a clear understanding of confidentiality and the ability to build relationships of trust, work well with people, and demonstrate and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills
  9. Has the ability to think flexibly and adapt work to the needs of the teachers

Has the ability to manage multiple projects effectively

REPORTS TO: Director of Elementary or Middle School/High School Teaching and Learning and collaborates with the principal in buildings where assigned.

JOB GOAL: To serve in a resource and instructional leadership capacity to teachers and administrators to facilitate instructional improvement

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work collaboratively with the building principal and SBDM Council to achieve School Improvement Plan goals and facilitate change to improve the instructional program
  2. Assist with the development, implementation, and alignment of curriculum based on the Kentucky Program of Studies and SBDM policies
  3. Assist with horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program
  4. Assist with deconstruction of standards and development of aligned unit and lesson plans that are both rigorous and relevant
  5. Assist and support teachers with the development of individual staff expertise through training, modeling, observing, coaching, monitoring, and providing feedback related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and classroom management initiatives
  6. Provide staff leadership to ensure understanding, promotion, and implementation of the educational objectives and expectations of the district
  7. Support and assist teachers with instructional technology
  8. Assist the principal in the development and implementation of professional learning communities
  9. Assist with the development and appropriate use of formative and summative assessments
  10. Assist school personnel with the identification of gifted and talented students and provide training and support to teachers on differentiated services to meet their needs and comply with all state regulations
  11. Assist teachers with developing differentiation strategies that will provide interventions for at-risk students and extensions for those who have already mastered the content
  12. Assist school personnel with collection of data, analysis, and decision making based on the data
  13. Provide ongoing professional development training as needed for both new and experienced teachers
  14. Participate in learning walks and other forms of classroom observation to determine professional development needs
  15. Develop an ongoing bank of resources and websites for teacher use and effectively communicate these to teachers
  16. Provide weekly reports to designated building principals and designated Director of Teaching and Learning
  17. Attend workshops and training to keep abreast of recent research on instructional strategies and expand one’s own skills
  18. Use creativity and problem-solving skills to address instructional needs
  19. Meet all federal, state, and district report, budget, and timeline requirements
  20. Work collaboratively with other staff and departments to assure that appropriate services are provided to schools
  21. Perform other duties consistent with the position as may be requested by the supervisor in collaboration with the building principal
