Reporting to the Vice President, Slot Operations, the Director, Slot Performance is responsible for overseeing the performance and optimization of gaming machines and directing the project division of the department. Oversees execution of the capital plan, gaming machine product mix and directs floor changes primarily based on performance data analytics, product innovation, industry trends and market demand. Works closely with vendors and regulatory agencies to ensure that the gaming floor has the newest and highest performing products and works closely with department leadership to identify, coordinate, and implement gaming machine changes, conversions and installations, ensuring maximum machine profitability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Ensures the product mix, pricing and placement are arranged, managed and evaluated for optimum performance. Reviews and analyzes historical machine performance data and identifies poor performance trends; identifies and plans for optimization to maximize gaming machine revenue. Is responsible for managing lease game fees to ensure that expenses are within budget or approved cost range.

2. Perform as a subject matter expert for slot industry standards, changes, market demand and trends. Conducts market research and competitive analysis to determine market opportunity and profitability and recommends changes to manufacturers for current and future product lines. Develops and implements strategies for new installations and floor placement and directs the removal or replacement of slot machines to ensure maximum profitability. Designs slot layouts utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software to address new opportunities and strategies as they arise.

3. Partners with vendors to review current machine performance and develop strategies to address game performance concerns. Coordinates new installations with vendors and regulatory agencies and negotiates pricing terms for new purchases and lease fees. Attends industry tradeshows to keep current on new vendor products and industry innovations.

4. Works closely with Information Technology (IT), Gaming Commission and other key stakeholders regarding the coordination, maintenance and upgrading of slot-related technology.

5. Is responsible for the development and implementation of training programs in the Slot Performance division.

6. Directs the enforcement of performance standards, policies, and procedures within their span of control. Initiates and maintains communication with team members, leadership, and other departments to ensure consistency.

7. Collaborates with department leadership to establish an annual budget with an emphasis on slot hardware, vendor fees and maintenance costs.

8. Monitors the performance and execution of all maintenance contracts and outside services.

9. Ensures compliance with all internal controls and Gaming Commission regulations.

10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of slot performance and operations experience in a large-scale gaming operation of 2,000+ machines required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of supervisory experience managing functions, teams, or departments required.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Advanced proficiency in slot machine analytics, AutoCAD, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability exercising utmost discretion with confidential information including, but not limited to confidential information related to guests, as well as enterprise financial data.
  • Ability to supervise assigned staff.
  • Ability to work a flexible or on-call schedule to meet the needs of the enterprise which may include working outside normal business hours.
  • Ability to maintain an excellent working knowledge of slots accounting, player tracking, ticket validation, performance management and data analysis systems.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Driving Responsibilities: Role requires regular commuting between locations. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits is required. Role will not operate or drive Tribe-owned vehicles or patron vehicles.

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.
  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle during travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.
  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
