We have opportunities for individuals to join our world class flood risk management team. We are seeking technical staff with a relationship to the water flood risk management industries, to help the delivery of hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects, including 1D and 2D models for rivers, surface water and coastal waters.

As a major engineering, environmental and design consultancy, Atkins offers opportunities to work on a wide variety of projects, at a range of scales. We have ongoing projects in flood risk management across HS2 and Sizewell C, with a lot of work coming from our frameworks for the Environment Agency and numerous local authorities in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. We are undertaking projects in natural flood management, flood forecasting, flood alleviation and helping water companies with elements of their water resources and water quality issues. Beyond this we work internationally and have work committed across the globe including the Red Sea economic zone and Al Bada developments in the middle east and EIA work in North America. All our projects are run with our colleagues in India, and you will be working as part of an international team.

Requirements:

  • A degree in any subject relevant to water.
  • Experience of 1D-2D hydraulic modelling using any of InfoWorks ICM, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller, or ESTRY-TUFLOW; or a strong desire to learn.
  • GIS skills or a desire to learn.
  • Experience in carrying out flood risk analyses for planning, development, and design; or a desire to learn.

Atkins and its clients value you having or working towards a Chartered status. Whilst we appreciate those with professional memberships, we will help you in obtaining those qualifications through mentoring and development opportunities if you don’t already have them.

Responsibilities:

Your day-to-day activities as part of our team will include detailed technical work involving hydraulic modelling, GIS, and technical reporting. Depending on your career aims you could also become involved in project management, at a level relative to your experience, and/or winning work by leading or helping our bid teams.
