Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Work Assistant within the Rutgers Cancer Institute, Behavioral Sciences Department.

In this role, the Work Assistant will work as a Peer Mentor in a Digital Self-Management and Peer Mentoring Intervention study. The Work Assistant will schedule and meet one-on-one with each of their assigned mentees weekly to guide them through the Managing Your Health intervention that is being tested in this study. The Work Assistant will also meet with the study staff for supervision after each call with their assigned mentees. When actively mentoring, the Work Assistant will be supervised by the study staff, who will offer guidance and problem-solve any challenges they may encounter with mentees.

Among the key duties for this position are the following:

  • Attends a Mentor training course conducted by the Study PI and completes online Human Subject Research training.
  • Downloads the MYH app to their phone to get familiar with the content.
  • Mentors childhood cancer survivors for a 6-week period each (usually assigned one at a time).
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Understands, demonstrates and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute core values.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers’s compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Interest policy.

Salary Details $16 per hour

Minimum Salary 15.49

Mid Range Salary 75.00

Maximum Salary 150.00

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma Required.
  • High School or Undergraduate students who wish to prepare for a STEM career, preferably in biomedical cancer research, should apply for the position. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • For undergraduate students, enrollment as an undergraduate major in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with coursework in biology, genetics, biochemistry/molecular biology is highly desirable.
