The Opportunity

Postman is seeking a visionary and technically fluent Head of Developer Relations to lead and scale our global developer engagement strategy. This is a rare opportunity to elevate Postman’s DevRel motion from broad awareness to deep, credible influence - especially among senior and staff-level engineers who are building and integrating APIs at the heart of modern software systems.

You’ll be responsible for shaping the vision, strategy, and execution of Postman’s developer relations and growing community engagement initiatives. From technical enablement to global advocacy, student outreach, and startup engagement, you will build a world-class function that aligns deeply with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams—and drives measurable business impact.

As we enter a new era of AI-powered development, you’ll play a pivotal role in defining how Postman engages with the most forward-thinking developers on the planet.

What You'll Do

Community Building & Engagement

  • Develop and execute a strategy to grow a vibrant and technically sophisticated community of API builders, platform engineers, and AI developers.
  • Partner with the marketing team to build a global community strategy, including the scaling of in-person user groups across key developer hubs.
  • Manage and expand the Postman Student Program, launching it in new markets to cultivate the next generation of developers and API practitioners.
  • Launch and own a new Postman Startup Program—designed to engage early-stage founders, accelerators, and VC-backed companies using APIs to build.
  • Establish clear goals and KPIs for engagement, activation, and retention across regions, verticals, and experience levels.
  • Build long-term relationships with influential developers, power users, and technical leaders to inform product feedback loops and deepen community trust.

Developer Advocacy

  • Serve as the connective tissue between developers and the Postman product team—gathering insights, identifying friction points, and driving improvements to the developer journey.
  • Ensure Postman maintains high credibility with advanced users—especially senior/staff engineers at leading organizations.
  • Champion the needs and voices of developers internally, influencing roadmap, documentation, onboarding, and ecosystem strategy.

Developer Enablement

  • Lead the development of high-impact content (technical blogs, tutorials, demos, talks, videos) that clearly communicates the value of Postman’s platform and protocols.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and marketing to make our technical onboarding, AI features, and enterprise-grade capabilities intuitive and accessible.
  • Guide our strategy to support developers across multiple channels (community forums, Discord, GitHub, Postman Academy, etc.).

Developer Evangelism & Thought Leadership

  • Represent Postman externally at high-profile conferences, technical panels, meetups, and within online developer communities
  • Drive awareness and affinity for Postman’s vision—including our investments in API-first architecture, AI integrations, and emerging open standards like MCP.
  • Cultivate relationships with thought leaders, partners, and contributors in the AI and API ecosystems.

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, mentor, and scale a world-class team of developer advocates, technical content creators, community managers, and program leads.
  • Set strategic goals, empower autonomous execution, and build a strong performance-oriented culture grounded in technical excellence and business impact.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years in developer relations, developer experience, or technical community leadership roles, with 8+ years leading teams.
  • A strong technical foundation, ideally in APIs, cloud-native platforms, or AI/ML. You’ve been hands-on with code and can hold your own in conversations with staff+ engineers.
  • Proven experience building developer communities and engagement programs from the ground up—across students, startups, and technical professionals—and driving measurable user and business growth.
  • Deep empathy for developers—combined with strategic thinking and business acumen. You connect engagement to outcomes.
  • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills; you make the complex feel clear, exciting, and actionable.
  • Passionate about AI, platform tooling, and shaping the future of software development.
  • Based in San Francisco, enabling tight collaboration with executive leadership and cross-functional teams.

The reasonably estimated base salary for this role ranges from $270,000 to $330,000 plus a competitive equity package. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

At Postman, we embrace a hybrid work model. For all roles based out of San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Bangalore, Noida, Hyderabad, and New York, employees are expected to come into the office 3-days a week. The benefits of our hybrid office model will be shared knowledge, brainstorming sessions, communication, and building trust in-person that cannot be replicated via zoom.
