About the role
Join ATB Financial as we launch ATB Capital, a new product line dedicated to Subordinated and Mezzanine finance. This is a pivotal opportunity to broaden our financial solutions and advisory impact for businesses across Alberta, directly supporting our clients' evolving needs.
As ATB Capital's Managing Director, you'll be instrumental in building and leading a high-performing team of Subordinated and Mezzanine Debt professionals. You will also serve as a Senior Leader within the ATB Capital Markets leadership team, playing a critical role in:
- Setting the strategic direction for ATB Capital, including developing comprehensive business plans and shaping the product line's future.
- Leading the growth of our junior debt solutions, driving their delivery to both ATB's established client base and forging new, impactful relationships.
Accountabilities
- Lead a team of Mezzanine and Subordinated Debt professionals with responsibility for negotiating and setting sales targets, monitoring and setting appropriate performance expectations, and be responsible for the team's financial results.
- Direct and lead the origination, structuring, negotiation and underwriting of complex junior debt transactions to facilitate leveraged buy-outs, corporate acquisitions, management buy-outs and leveraged recapitalizations.
- Establish and oversee a robust portfolio management process that encompasses reporting, covenant compliance and overall portfolio performance.
- Develop and grow a network of referral sources in the Private Equity, Transaction Advisory and Corporate Finance sectors.
- Develop and maintain a strong and ongoing relationship with the Corporate Bank and ATB Business to ensure seamless delivery of advisory based services to our clients.
- Work with Senior Management in developing the business’s strategic direction, new product offerings and new opportunities.
- Ensure a seamless coordination between ATB Capital and both the Business Banking and Corporate Banking teams, and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues in other areas of ATB.
- Responsible for executing a multi coverage (cross sell) model with existing and potential clients.
- Lead and assist in developing initiatives to grow ATB’s share of wallet, while maximizing customer experience.
- Monitor client, client industry, and regulatory agencies for potential changes which may affect client’s portfolio and business needs.
- Consider risk, internal controls and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures.
Skills, experience & requirements
- Atleast 10 to 15 years of experience in Corporate or Commercial Banking including origination, underwriting and oversight of related Junior Debt or Private Equity.
- 10+ years of leadership experience with a solid understanding of the critical importance of Culture and Employee Engagement
- Post-secondary education in business or economics, with a focus on finance, marketing and sales management. Related Graduate level degree (MBA), CFA, CBV and/or CPA designation would be an asset.
- Track record of generating new business and meeting/exceeding growth targets.
- Extensive due diligence experience related to subordinated and mezzanine debt finance.
- Demonstrated credibility through professional track record, integrity and business knowledge.
- Proven network of business and professional contacts.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with the ability to develop consensus and to influence key stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate a highly skilled team.
- Be flexible and willing and able to participate in client events during evenings and weekends, and travel as needed.
- Results-oriented with a good blend of analytical, interpersonal and innovative thinking skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships at every level across industry and internally across the organization.
- Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.
