Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000 / academic year. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Because this appointment is temporary, you will not be eligible to receive all of the benefits normally provided to members of the university staff under the standard University of Colorado benefits programs. You are not eligible to receive paid vacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits. However, you are eligible to accrue sick leave and you will accrue 0.034 hours of sick leave per hour worked.

Summary

The College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Instructor position to begin August 2024. We are seeking an experienced professional with in-depth knowledge in education with a specialization in inclusive early childhood education, early childhood special education, and/or early childhood leadership. Primary teaching and advising responsibilities will be in the Inclusive Early Childhood Education Bachelor of Arts, Inclusive Early Childhood Leadership Bachelor of Innovation™, and/or Special Education courses across multiple programs. We are particularly interested in applicants who have a strong interest in inclusive, innovative and collaborative approaches to teacher education, especially school/university partnerships that leverage technology to enhance access.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience, expertise, or interest in rural and distance education.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach four courses each semester (fall and spring), primarily at the undergraduate level
  • Mentor and advise students
  • Attend monthly department meetings and regular program meetings
  • Create highly engaging learning experiences related to course outcomes
  • Gather and assess evidence of student learning in accordance with course expectations
  • Use effective distance and online learning methods when needed
  • Respond to student learning needs in a timely manner
  • Implement culturally responsive practices
  • Develop thorough syllabi and Canvas content OR follow the provided syllabus and Canvas content for the course
  • Engage in continuous curriculum and program review and development
  • Actively engage in authorization/accreditation processes
  • Serve on department, college, and university committees
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of best practices in both inclusive education and adult learning methods
  • Ability to orchestrate engaging distance learning experiences
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding critical and sensitive information, records, and reports
  • Ability to work in partnership with colleagues and faculty
  • Multicultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to all people

Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire:

  • Earned Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Education, or closely related field is required
  • Experience as a direct service provider in early intervention, or direct working experiences with children under the age of eight with diverse abilities and/or disabilities, including at-risk young children is required
  • Field supervision experience in undergraduate/graduate early childhood and/or early childhood special education teacher preparation program is highly desirable
  • Experience in distance learning or online learning and education is highly desirable
  • Experience working with parents/families of young children with diverse abilities is highly desirable
  • Experience facilitating access to inclusive education classroom curricula for young children with diverse abilities is highly desirable
