Overview:

The DBA Specialist role requires a highly competent and motivated individual who wants to leverage his/her technical abilities to grow his/her professional career. This role requires hands-on service-oriented mentality, database management, troubleshooting, incident resolution, and a focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with SLAs. Additional responsibilities include establishing and maintaining communication with customers, initiating and performing changes on production and non-production systems, and proactively escalating issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes. Excellent Critical Thinking, Analytical skills, time management skills, communication skills, ability to prioritize and multi task, ability to routinely make effective and timely decisions in alignment with departmental direction are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Working in team environment to properly support critical and non-production databases in multi-tenant, high-stress environments.
  • Working with supported applications Installation, Configuration, Management, and Monitoring of databases in a SOX and PHI compliant environment
  • Performance Optimization, SQL Optimization, Troubleshooting
  • Data Modeling, Mirroring, Database Security and Audit Compliance
  • Scripting, Standardization, and Automation
  • Specification of server hardware, software, and configurations necessary for running databases in an optimal manner
  • Installation, configuration, and integration of third-party applications and tools as needed
  • Development of procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, preventing customer impact
  • Research and recommendations on database products, services, protocols and standards
  • Control and monitoring of user access to databases and regulatory and security compliance
  • Engagement and collaboration with application service owners and technical leads to ensure project and service deliverables are met
  • Sharing database expertise with project teams to maximize system availability, efficiency, and security
  • Working with development teams and 3rd party vendors throughout the development life cycle regarding optimal use of database resources and features
  • Design, build, testing, and deployment of database solutions for projects
  • Understanding, adoption, and adherence to IT Service Management standards in an ITIL framework, including incident management, release management, change management, and quality assurance standards
  • Providing ownership on database related problems; problem resolution, and root cause analysis.
  • Responsible for opening, managing, escalating and resolving support requests with Oracle, Microsoft, and other vendors
  • Assisting vendor support services and IT team members to quickly resolve problems
  • Monitor and analyze database performance and continually improve to optimize performance
  • Resolving production problems in a timely manner, including off hours and weekend support when necessary
  • Providing 24x7 Including Weekend Support if necessary and participate in on-call rotation
  • Understanding backup strategy and performing on demand backups and restores
  • Developing new backup and recovery processes that leverage new techniques and technology
  • Scripting and automating solutions using C-Shell, Powershell, Shell, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Perl …etc.
  • Learning and staying current on industry trends and standards, features and functionality of all databases supported by the team

Qualification & Experience:

Education: 4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience or more.

Minimum Requirements: 8+ years relevant experience managing, supporting, tuning, & troubleshooting Oracle and Linux Infrastructure.

Critical Skills :

  • Oracle : (Must Haves)
  • Hands on Experience on Oracle Single Instance/RAC, Multitenant, and Active Data Guard
  • Hands on Experience administering databases in Versions of Oracle 19c (Installations, Patching, Upgrades)
  • Hands on Experience in Performance Tuning in SQL and PL/SQL (Coding and Managing)
  • Hands on Experience on managing large sized database (~more than 50 TB)
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Architecture and Concepts
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery scenarios with and without using RMAN
  • Hands On experience in Managing Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c & above & other utilities like Toad
  • Strong knowledge of Linux administration experience is a must and a plus.
  • Good Knowledge of Fundamentals (Crontab, Architecture, Etc.) & Experience in writing scripting in Linux Shell scripts
  • Good Knowledge of AWS and S3 Buckets, File Share and Transfers.
  • Must be a team player and available to support work when required.

Additional Skills

  • Knowledge of Other RDBMS such as SQL Server, Postgres, Mongo-DB and Plus
  • Knowledge and Experience in Cloud Tech like AWS, Azure, Snowflake and Databricks.
  • Good problem-solving skills and work independently and must have ability to work as a team.
  • Demonstrated experience with compliance management, including supporting audit activities, vulnerability management, and other security needs
  • Strategic thinker balanced with a grasp of details and Must Have Ability to Work with other Team Members.
  • Open minded, Innovative and leading-edge “change the way the world works” perspective
  • Experience working along with development and product management teams
