This position will be .75 time with the STEM Mo-BILE and .25 time with Manchester CREATES. The STEM Mobile Biofabrication Integrated Lab Experience (STEM-MoBILE) and Manchester CREATES are two initiatives which work closely together and are funded under the EDA Build Back Better (BBB) Regional Challenge Grant.

The STEM-MoBILE delivers biofabrication-focused learning activities to New Hampshire and the surrounding community with the goal of inspiring youth to consider careers in biofabrication. The STEM-MoBILE offers school visits, after-school programs, homeschool groups, and other types of visits, and aligns all its protocols with the Next Gen Science Standards to better integrate into school curriculum.

Manchester CREATES is a workforce development project with two main branches. The first is two weeklong summer camps for Manchester School District students entering grades 5-12 where participants engage in hands-on workshops led by UNH Manchester faculty and focused on biofabrication. The second is a paid two-week professional development program which provides training to middle and high school STEM teachers that helps them create formal projects related to regenerative medicine and biotechnology which they can bring back to their classrooms.

The main role of the Project Associate is to deliver educational activities to students and community members as a representative of the STEM-MoBILE, including driving the STEM-MoBILE to events. In addition, the Project Associate will assist families with registration for Manchester Tech Camp, support teachers with their curricula throughout the school year, and maintain a shared lab space.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching (65%)

  • Working closely with the SM Project Manager to develop and refine curriculum and lesson plans related to biofabrication.
  • Representing the STEM-MoBILE, the New Hampshire Biofabrication Cluster, and UNH appropriately with all members of collaborators and with the public.
  • Being the “lead educator” at events as indicated by the Project Manager, and acting as a mentor to Youth Educators.
  • Developing protocols and lessons, including computer science, for use with MC teacher professional development and camp, and providing coding for other protocols as required.
  • Teaching MC teachers how to use the above protocols with their students.

Admin (25%)

  • Administrative tasks related to the operation of the STEM-MoBILE including but not limited to: help with scheduling, communication with site contacts prior to and after visits, record keeping of events attended, promotion of the STEM-MoBILE through management of social media accounts, upkeep of the STEM-MoBILE website, vehicle maintenance and routine appointments, etc.
  • Attending meetings and events as invited by the Project Manager
  • Providing and/or collaborating on written reports for the Project Manager after events when applicable
  • Administrative tasks related to the operation of Manchester Tech Camp and Tech 4 Teachers including but not limited to: managing social media and records of trainings and camp, coordinating with marketing personnel, organizing and keeping inventory on lab equipment and supplies, etc.

Driving (10%)

  • Completing and maintaining all training required by the Project Manager and the university for driving university vehicles.
  • Driving the vehicle to and from events located anywhere in New Hampshire, including packing up the vehicle before events and unloading the vehicle after events.
