This position will be .75 time with the STEM Mo-BILE and .25 time with Manchester CREATES. The STEM Mobile Biofabrication Integrated Lab Experience (STEM-MoBILE) and Manchester CREATES are two initiatives which work closely together and are funded under the EDA Build Back Better (BBB) Regional Challenge Grant.
The STEM-MoBILE delivers biofabrication-focused learning activities to New Hampshire and the surrounding community with the goal of inspiring youth to consider careers in biofabrication. The STEM-MoBILE offers school visits, after-school programs, homeschool groups, and other types of visits, and aligns all its protocols with the Next Gen Science Standards to better integrate into school curriculum.
Manchester CREATES is a workforce development project with two main branches. The first is two weeklong summer camps for Manchester School District students entering grades 5-12 where participants engage in hands-on workshops led by UNH Manchester faculty and focused on biofabrication. The second is a paid two-week professional development program which provides training to middle and high school STEM teachers that helps them create formal projects related to regenerative medicine and biotechnology which they can bring back to their classrooms.
The main role of the Project Associate is to deliver educational activities to students and community members as a representative of the STEM-MoBILE, including driving the STEM-MoBILE to events. In addition, the Project Associate will assist families with registration for Manchester Tech Camp, support teachers with their curricula throughout the school year, and maintain a shared lab space.
