Job purpose
The Quality Inspectors primary responsibility is to inspect product in-process and to ensure non-conforming product is identified and corrected as soon as possible. The Quality Inspector is tasked with inspecting all product multiple times per shift and shutting down any process that is non-conforming.
Duties and responsibilities
INSPECTION REQUIREMENT TEMPLATE UPDATES:
- Work with Quality and Engineering teams to identify in-process inspection criteria
- Update inspection templates to reflect required inspection criteria
- Identify workstations and processes in need of inspection plans
FIRST-PIECE INSPECTION:
- May be required to perform first-piece inspections at beginning of run to verify production setup meets customer requirements.
- Use hand tools and visual inspection methods to identify conformance to customer requirements at set-up
- Work with Quality and Engineering teams to identify gaps in inspection criteria.
- Authorize production to begin based on first-piece inspection.
IN-PROCESS INSPECTION (Primary Job Function):
- Perform mid-run (in-process) visual and dimensional inspections periodically during every process.
- Use hand tools and visual inspection methods to verify continued conformity to customer requirements.
- Pass or fail operations and segregate non-conforming product.
- Notify production team of any non-conformances.
- Perform “Quick Fix” operations with production team and verify effectiveness.
- Halt production when non-conformances are found
- Issue Corrective Actions for reoccurring non-conformances.
- Authorize production to begin after non-conformance root cause has been addressed.
- Identify and sign off on product that has been inspected.
FINAL INSPECTION
- Use hand tools, computerized inspection equipment and visual inspection methods to confirm dimensional and visual requirements before release of product to the customer.
- Record inspection data in reporting software.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Minimum of High School Diploma/GED
- Print Reading (preferred)
- GD&T (preferred)
- Understanding and ability to use inspection hand tools and other metrology equipment. (preferred)
- Basic Understanding of Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Suite
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to see minute differences in product
- 5 years’ experience (preferred)
- Ability to work well with others
- No Special Working Conditions
- Environmentally Controlled Indoor environment
- Standing or walking for long periods of time, looking under a microscope, lifting min/max of 25lbs., fine manual dexterity, near-sight vision (if necessary, corrective glasses or lenses necessary)
