Resident Engineer

M-F 8am-5pm

(evenings and weekends as needed)

The Resident Engineer (RE) acts as the on-site representative for the engineering firm or project owner, overseeing daily construction activities, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulations. The RE serves as a liaison between the client, contractors, and other stakeholders, maintaining quality control and solving on-site issues in real-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily construction operations to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the client, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular reports to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Review and approve materials, workmanship, and equipment used at the site.
  • Address and resolve field construction issues in coordination with designers and contractors.
  • Conduct and document inspections, site visits, and testing as needed.
  • Track changes and assist with preparation of change orders, RFIs (Requests for Information), and technical submittals.
  • Ensure proper documentation, including daily logs, photographs, meeting minutes, and inspection reports.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical input to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and local safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or in progress (required for some jurisdictions/projects).
  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles, construction methods, and documentation practices.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera, AutoCAD).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently on-site in varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

  • Majority of work is performed on construction sites.
  • May require standing, walking, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work depending on project deadlines.
