Material Handler

1st shift - $16.00/hr

Reports To: Shipping Supervisor/ Receiving Supervisor/ Team Lead

Position Summary: Performs duties related to the receiving of incoming material from vendors, customers, and other Kirby Risk Corporation locations.

Essential Job Functions (include but are not limited to):

  • Verifies accuracy of incoming material quantities with Bill of Freight and packing slip.
  • Follows departmental procedures to enter packing slip quantities into computer system.
  • Documents discrepancies between incoming material and the P. O.
  • Receives incoming/returned material from customers.
  • Labels all incoming material appropriately (System Software #, Returns, Customer Supplied Product, etc.)
  • Maintains and organizes all inventory storage locations including materials received for repairs and stock.
  • Participates in cross training opportunities as assigned.
  • Communicates with the Quality and Purchasing Departments on all returned and damaged material.
  • Follows department procedures in resolving material discrepancies
  • Interprets MRP reports.
  • Strives for continuous improvement by using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
  • Provides backup transport of customer materials to or from KR location.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures Sustains housekeeping standards in accordance with Service Center appearance guidelines.
  • Maintains Service Center to internal safety standards and OSHA compliance.
  • In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all positions are also responsible for:
  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments while maintaining regular and timely attendance.

Education/Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required:

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • Previous shipping/receiving experience is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple tasks/priorities
  • Previous forklift experience; Current forklift certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and customer contact skills
  • Strong telephone etiquette
  • Demonstrates computer skills and aptitude; Microsoft Office preferred
  • Computer / Label Printer / Copy Machine / Calculator / Telephone / Fax Machine

Braiding Machine / Injection Molder / Calibration Machine / Air Wrenches/ Tools*

  • Pallet jack/ Forklift / Crane / Flatbed Truck **
  • Scale/ All equipment related to area
  • Ability to detect and correct quality problems
  • Job requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.
  • Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.
  • Job requires a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.

Work Environment:

  • Mostly indoors, controlled temperature environment. Employee could be required to go to customer site.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing work environment with a variation of noise levels to include: high to moderate noise due to hand tools, machinery, heavy equipment, alarms, and general conversations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work within a department with several people
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate in a reasonable manner.
