Job Description Summary: Minimum starting salary $15.50 / hour
The Transporter is responsible for transporting clients to and from their home to Ozark Center programs. Transporter will be trained in trauma-informed care and will work to help provide services in an environment that is sensitive and responsive which will prevent victimization, abuse, or trauma as a result of the care received. The Transporter will report to the Transportation Supervisor.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience driving a van or bus required.
- At least 23 years of age
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of each client while in transit.
- Responsible for reporting all safety hazards that might occur while transporting clients, such as malfunctioning of any part of the vehicle.
- Ensure all required paperwork is present in the vehicle.
- Report any inappropriate physical or verbal behavior to the Transportation Supervisor immediately.
- Maintain all paperwork required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
- Keep the vehicles clean, both interior and exterior
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor
- Comply with all local, state, and federal motor vehicle laws and check that the Insurance card and Vehicle Registration is present in the vehicle.
- Complete a pre-trip inspection and be satisfied that the following parts and accessories are in good working order: Parking brake, Steering Mechanism, Lighting devices and reflectors, Tires, Horn, Windshield wipers, Rear, and side view mirrors.
- Ensure the following emergency equipment is present and up to date: First aid kit, Fire Extinguisher (must have inspection date less than one year), Triangle kit, Fuses and bulbs, Emergency kit, Usable spare tire, jack, and lug wrench.
- Ensure cargo (passenger baggage) is secured and not loose in the vehicle.
- Fueling vehicles (never while running and passengers must exit the vehicle while refueling)
- Perform safe operation of the vehicle: All passengers are to be seated (seats are secure and seat belts working properly), All standees (passenger) are behind the standee line, all exits are in working order and passengers do not obstruct the use of them.
- Must not cross a railroad track or tracks at grade unless they first stop the passenger vehicle no closer than 15 feet to the tracks, thereafter, look and listen in each direction along the tracks for an approaching train, and then if no train is approaching, may proceed across the tracks.
- Driver does not have to stop if:
- Tracks are used exclusively for industrial purposes.
- Flagman or police officer is directing traffic.
- Crossing is controlled by a functioning traffic signal and the signal is green.
- Abandoned Crossing is marked “ABANDONED.”
- Industrial or spur line railroad grade crossing is marked “EXEMPT".
Physical Requirements:
- Medium physical effort requires handling of average weight of objects up to 25 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time and be able to stand up and walk.
- Requires the ability to work under stressful conditions, work irregular hours and potentially deal with irate individuals.
