What You’ll Do:

Responsible for the management of a carrier team: Ensure all resources are being used effectively. Responsibilities including training staff, planning, assigning and directing work, hiring staff, appraising performance, rewarding and discipling staff, addressing service failures and resolving problems. Determine strategies for executing management objectives.

  • Ability to facilitate and motivate individual Carrier Sales Reps and as a team
  • Work with carrier base to drive the use of the U.S. Xpress digital and automated systems.
  • Identify new and/or reoccurring issues/problems and implement solutions
  • Monitor staff performance addressing issues to positively impact results, data entry, and profitability; set goals for staff and schedule staff to meet customer demand and maximize productivity
  • Conduct team meetings; provide feedback to staff to ensure maximum productivity
  • Manage transportation providers to ensure maximum use of capacity and achieve load count goals.
  • Develop sales strategies and prospect potential new carriers to develop carrier base making sure we get the most out of our capacity
  • Train and develop all staff members to drive internal marketing, rep development, data integrity, and automation
  • Set and/or approve all rates for third-party carriers to ensure the best possible rate and service in the marketplace
  • Resolve issues about freight and deliveries between the third-party carriers, customers and sales reps
  • Prioritize all available freight to efficiently and effectively cover all available customer loads every day
  • Communicate the market conditions about supply and demand of capacity and lane rates on spot and contracted pricing
  • Strengthen your team’s knowledge in market information about the supply and demand of capacity in the marketplace to understand market conditions, seasonality, and lane rates
  • Collaborate with internal management teams to communicate new transportation provider opportunities and to ensure the carrier team is meeting expectations
  • Direct contact for customer experience team and managers for load responsibilities, carrier rep issues, spot quotes, etc.
  • Meet or exceed monthly operational target goals

Identify and communicate ways U.S. Xpress Logistics can continuously improve in its operations

What We’re Looking For:

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required. Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.

Experience

  • 4+ years of transportation brokerage experience
  • 2+ years of transportation procurement experience
  • Direct sales experience preferred

Skills/Certifications

  • Strong negotiation skills, and ability to influence and persuade others.
  • Manage and grow a network of carriers.
  • Experience working in a deadline driven environment preferred
  • A strong sense of urgency in order to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent decision-making skills to resolve problems, identifying issues, and thinking critically to determine the best course of action and implementing solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit
  • Ability to multitask required
  • Attention to detail

Supervisory Responsibility: 2-10
