General Laborer – Rebar Production

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

About the Role

Are you looking to get your foot in the door with a reputable company and grow your career in the construction and steel production industry? This contract-to-hire position offers the chance to secure long-term, stable employment with on-the-job training and advancement potential. You'll work outdoors in a steel yard, starting with bundling and tagging rebar. Once trained, you'll operate rebar-cutting machinery and cranes, supporting a busy production line year-round.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bundle and tag rebar for customer orders and pickup
  • Use basic math skills to divide bundles evenly (calculator provided)
  • Support machine operators with daily tasks
  • Learn to operate rebar cutting equipment and an overhead crane (training provided)
  • Follow safety protocols while working in various outdoor weather conditions

What You Bring

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in steel fabrication, general labor, packaging, and loading
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely
  • Competence with basic measurements and calculations

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read imperial measurements (feet and inches)
  • Experience in a metal or rebar production environment is an asset
  • Reliable, safety-conscious, and eager to learn
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Work Environment

  • Outdoor steel yard — year-round work in all weather conditions (except lightning/freezing rain)
  • Steel-toed boots and appropriate seasonal clothing required
  • Facility includes machine operators working in open-air, sheltered stations
  • Shift Schedule:
    • Monday to Thursday: 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
    • Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
