The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE

Provides quality and inclusive patient centered healthcare. Oversees all aspects of Phlebotomy Staff training. Provide technical expertise and enhance the growth of the department through areas of staff development and training personnel in day- to-day operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collects, registers, and processes patient laboratory specimens using a variety of collection techniques, protocols, and computer systems.
  • Follows rigorous patient identification protocols for all ages and levels of complexity.
  • Services patients and performs home draws at any assigned location, including Patient Service Centers, Clinics, and Nursing Homes.
  • Trains new staff and coordinates other necessary training, including program maintenance and development, orientation, and direction of in-house trainers.
  • Evaluates training progress and assesses staff competency.
  • Documents and reports competency to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates the retraining of current staff when ongoing errors are identified.
  • Coordinates ongoing staff training and development.
  • Participates in maintaining the department in technical readiness to meet the regulatory compliance standards for New York State, CAP, and any other regulatory agency inspecting the clinical laboratory.
  • Ensures staff follow laboratory policies and procedures, including safety and security. Works with supervisor(s) and other laboratory staff to plan for and accomplish departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Promotes and supports a positive team environment within the laboratory.
  • Continuously assesses work processes and suggests improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems.
  • Evaluates and implements new techniques and procedures that may be considered for process change.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of Phlebotomy experience required
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of Phlebotomy operational experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication, word processing and computer skills required
  • Professional discretion and confidentiality required
  • Ability to work a rotation of shifts and work weekends and holidays required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • PHEL - Phlebotomy Trained Phlebotomy certification or equivalent upon hire required
