A Quality Control Technician will safely collect samples, perform quality assurance tests, and report conformance of aggregates, cementitious materials, and concrete products to specifications/standards. A QC Tech will further collaborate with quarry team members on how to make adjustments to crushing equipment to maintain those standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • General education including arithmetic, grammar, computer, and lab science (high school graduate or GED equivalent with biology, chemistry, and/or physics).
  • Valid Hawaii State driver's license.
  • Maintain proper certifications, licensures, and acceptable driving record.
  • Able to operate testing machines and equipment.
  • High ethical and moral standards.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3+ years' experience in all aspects of testing in the general construction industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely collect material samples (aggregate, cementitious, and concrete products).
  • Perform tests on construction materials in accordance with ASTM or ASSHTO methods.
  • Record and evaluate test date to determine material compliance with specifications and report the test results to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Perform daily housekeeping, maintain laboratory, and equipment.
  • Perform concrete trial batches.
  • Acquire ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1 certification within 1 year.
  • Assist QC department manager with bids and submittals.
  • Provide field supervision/expedite on large or critical concrete pours.
  • Assist with investigation of customer complaints about products and service.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Candidate must communicate effectively (listening, speaking, writing) and be able to work in high stress situations.
  • Must be self-motivated, a team player, with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer relations and be respectful of others (customers and colleagues alike).
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, conditions, and behaviors.
  • Once qualified, assist with CCPI/ACI Concrete Field Test Technician Grade 1 testing.
  • Assist with research and development of new mixes and products.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Work in a variety of environments from air-conditioned office/lab to hot/cold, dusty/muddy, windy field conditions.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Will require climbing/descending ladders and/or stairs and withstand heights.
  • Required lifting and carrying equipment and containers of material weighing 60 lbs.
  • Must be able to use a wheelbarrow loaded with up to 3 cubic feet (450 lbs.) of ready mix concrete.
  • Operate aggregate, cementitious, concrete testing equipment.
  • Computer literate.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends to accommodate operations requirements.
  • Meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality results.
