Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves the collection, storage, and processing of specimens while ensuring compliance with established procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens accurately.
  • Record maintenance data and ensure decontamination procedures are followed.
  • Update patient information and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Properly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy skills with blood draw and venipuncture experience.
  • Patient care proficiency.
  • Phlebotomy certification valid in the state of employment.
  • Specimen processing experience.
  • Familiarity with medical procedures, including pediatric and geriatric care.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 6+ years of experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. The role requires compliance with safety regulations, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. The work environment includes handling various medical specimens and requires adherence to specific protocols for specimen transport and storage.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
