SR. DATA SCIENTIST - AI/ML & LLM (AR/PA IT)

Bowhead seeks a Sr. Data Scientist – AI/ML & LLM Specialist to join our team supporting the AR/PA IT Program at Naval Surface Warfare Center - Corona in Corona, California. The Sr. Data Scientist – AI/ML & LLM Specialist will work directly with the client analyzing complex and unique technical support assignments and lead or collaborate with engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and program analysts within an agile environment. They will report to the Program Manager of the Task Order. They will consider overall project design including cost, and schedule that may be associated with a project.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on experience fine-tuning and applying Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT, LLaMA, or Claude for NLP and generative tasks
  • Strong programming skills in Python; experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn
  • Proven experience with data analytics, feature engineering, and building end-to-end ML pipelines
  • Familiarity with vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models into secure or cloud-hosted environments (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Knowledge of RMF, STIGs, and DoD cybersecurity compliance practices
  • Conduct research to identify and assess new technology solutions for automating existing reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design hardware and software architectures and system hosting strategies.
  • Lead the development of interfaces and software code to efficiently retrieve, modify, and update data.
  • Support the research and development of artificial intelligence/machine learning methods for advanced data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Security Clearance (Secret or higher required)
  • Five (5+) years of experience developing and deploying AI/ML models in enterprise or government environments
  • Must hold CompTIA Security+ (CE) certification
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate and implement creative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality results.
  • Ability to provide clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Proven experience in providing training and knowledge transfer to team members.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
