Pay: $52.33 - $83.73 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience

Summary:The Director of Professional Billing Coding is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing PB coding operations at UCHealth. This includes ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of medical coding for all professional services, in compliance with all regulations. The Director will lead a team of coding professionals, implement best practices, leverage technology, and collaborate cross-functionally to optimize revenue integrity, mitigate compliance risks, and support the overall financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The Director Coding plays a key role in the health system's strategic and operational efforts:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor coding strategies, policies, and procedures that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence within the professional coding department.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the professional coding team.
  • Establish and maintain robust quality assurance programs, including regular audits, feedback mechanisms, and targeted education to ensure coding accuracy rates meet or exceed organizational and industry standards.
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize coding technologies.
  • Leverage data analytics to identify coding trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential compliance risks.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Integrity, Business Services, Clinical Operations, and IT to ensure a cohesive and effective revenue cycle.
  • Mentor and develop team leaders, supporting staff retention, growth, and succession planning

Candidate Qualifications

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Coding-related certification from AHIMA or AAPC.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree or certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • Minimum Experience: 5 years of relevant experience in professional coding management

  • Expert knowledge of coding guidelines: ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and official coding clinic guidelines.
  • Strong leadership and management skills: Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills: Verbal, written, and presentation skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff, management, and external partners.
  • Regulatory compliance: In-depth understanding of healthcare compliance principles and risk management related to coding.
  • Project management: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Technical proficiency: Comfortable with various healthcare IT systems and data analytics tools.
