TRIAL DIVISION

The Attorney General’s Office is looking for three (3) highly motivated paralegals to join the Trial Division within the Government Bureau. The Trial Division represents and defends the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, its agencies, and employees in a wide variety of civil lawsuits.

Primary Duties:

Provide day-to-day paralegal and administrative support to Assistant Attorneys General and all aspects of their case requirements.

  • Assist with fact gathering and conduct legal research to support case development.
  • Attend client meetings, depositions (both in and outside the office), court hearings, and trials.
  • Draft discovery documents and other pleadings.
  • Organize and maintain files, including reviewing documents and exhibits.
  • Support attorneys in preparing for hearings, depositions, meetings, and trials.
  • Communicate with clients, attorneys, witnesses, court clerk's offices, and members of the public.
  • Manage calendars, including the scheduling of critical dates, deadlines, and case-related appointments.
  • Completing forms, prepare court documents for filing, and maintain case management system.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties, including processing all presentments, typing, filing, screening mail.
  • Perform other duties, as required.

Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt.

Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.

Salary: $53,762

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Prior civil litigation experience, preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of Westlaw, preferred.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license is preferred, as travel may be required to various courts, client, and opposing party locations and law offices.
