The LSU Research Associate will work directly with the Director of the Cultural Responsiveness and Implementation Science in Psychology (CRISP) Lab and her graduate and undergraduate student team to execute grant-funded and applied research projects in Pre-K-12 grade schools. Two primary grant projects that the Research Associate will help to coordinate and execute include 1) the Evaluation of the K-5 Second Step Social-Emotional Learning Program & Bully Prevention Unit: Impact on youth violence and school climate among students with and at-risk for disability identification and 2) the Louisiana-Statewide Family Engagement Center: Advancing Meaningful Family-School Engagement projects. The former is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences and is a longitudinal, cluster randomized controlled trial evaluating the K-5 Second Step Curriculum plus its Bully Prevention Unit (Committee for Children, 2011; 2013) across 36 elementary schools (18 Second Step [SS] only, 18 Second Step plus Bully Prevention Unit [SS+BPU]) in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Louisiana with an emphasis on student with or at risk for disability identification. The latter is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and is being carried out under the direction of the Louisiana Center for Literacy and Learning and focuses on the development and evaluation of a family-engaged model of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
Job Responsibilities:
50% - Project Coordination. The Research Associate is expected to play a crucial role in coordinating and managing research project activities to achieve grant goals and objectives. This includes serving as the main point of contact for Louisiana public schools participating in the applied research projects. The Research Associate will collaborate with the Principal Investigator to assign, oversee, and monitor the completion of project activities, ensuring they are completed on time and meet high-quality standards. The Research Associate will assist in developing procedures and systems to facilitate and track project tasks, including data collection and storage, while ensuring the appropriate security and maintenance of project data and records.
30% - Training and Technical Assistance. The Research Associate will provide direct training and technical assistance to project personnel, participating schools, and educators. This support will involve developing professional development workshops informed by research and best practices. Activities may also include travel for in-person training methods, such as direct instruction, modeling, coaching, and offering performance feedback. Additionally, the Research Associate may conduct follow-up observations and consultations to support the implementation of curriculum, programming, and strategies after providing professional development workshops or training sessions.
10% - Research Analysis and Writing. The Research Associate will conduct literature reviews, perform data analysis, interpret results, and assist in writing to achieve the following objectives: (a) enhance support and programming at participating schools, (b) develop manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, and (c) pursue new or additional grant funding opportunities.
5% - Dissemination of Findings. The Research Associate will collaborate with the Principal Investigator and lab members to develop materials summarizing research findings and to present these findings at local, regional, national, and international conferences.
5% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or other related health service provider or education degree (e.g., teacher education)
Specific experience: Prior experience working in mental health, public health or education is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or other related health service provider or education degree (e.g., teacher education)
Years of experience: 2
Specific experience: Experience in applied research related to mental health, public health, or education, including the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of research studies. Demonstrated project management experience or experience collaborating on a large-scale research or technical assistance project. Intermediate statistical skills in social sciences. Ability to teach/instruct or provide professional development effectively.
