SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist to join our Laboratory team. Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director of Laboratory, the Medical Technologist is responsible for performing clinical testing on patient specimens originating from all age specific groups of in-patients, out-patients and employees of the hospital. The Medical Technologist is responsible for demonstrating and utilizing technical and analytical skills to provide physicians with necessary diagnostic information for the initiation of proper medical care and treatment of patients. Services are provided with optimum concern for the quality of medical treatment and care rendered to the patient. The duties performed by hospital staff in this position will demonstrate what is best for the patient as well as promote development of an awareness and cooperation reflecting the interrelationship of departments in caring, comforting and healing the sick and injured.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts a wide array of laboratory procedures, encompassing all tasks and testing associated with the medical laboratory technologist role. Additionally, proficient in executing advanced and intricate laboratory procedures, adept at identifying deviations from expected outcomes, and resolving issues utilizing scientific methodologies.
  • Assesses and resolves challenges linked to the collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis while considering physiological processes and requisites.
  • Ensures the optimal operation of laboratory equipment, documenting functionality, conducting calibration, troubleshooting malfunctions, executing repairs, and implementing preventive maintenance measures. Proficient in diagnosing testing discrepancies attributed to equipment malfunctions.
  • Executes and records quality control and assurance measures, as well as corrective actions pertaining to test performance, incorporating statistical principles and concepts of performance enhancement.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning test outcomes, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and various factors impacting test results. Analyzes results, offers interpretations, and recommends appropriate follow-up tests or procedures.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Biological Science is required
  • MT or MLS or equivalent certification from ASCP, AMT, NCA or HEW required
  • Verification of applicable certification
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
