Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
On-Site Requirement: 100% On-site

Job Overview:
The Herbicide Tolerance Assay Development and Characterization (HT-ADC) team is seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to support the development and optimization of assay platforms that identify and characterize genes associated with herbicide tolerance traits. This position involves greenhouse and laboratory responsibilities in a collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily plant handling and care, including planting and maintenance.
- Execute herbicide applications on plants using a track sprayer chamber.
- Conduct quality checks and sort plant material for experimental use.
- Support experimental planning and coordination with cross-functional teams such as Crop Health, Herbicide Biology Discovery, Research Enablement, and other Johnston, IA research groups.
- Operate common lab instrumentation including liquid handlers, imaging tools, and automated systems.
- Maintain clean and organized laboratory and greenhouse environments according to SOPs.
- Safely handle discovery chemicals, commercial herbicides, and solvents.
- Follow sterile techniques for lab-based tasks when needed.
- Use Microsoft Office 365 tools (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint) for documentation and communication.
- Accurately record experimental data under the guidance of lab and project leads.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Associate's degree in a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience
- OR Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience
- OR Master's degree (preferred, experience not mandatory)
- Preferred Background:
- Plant Biology, Weed Science, or related life sciences
- Previous experience in greenhouse operations or plant research
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Proficiency in data documentation and adherence to safety and quality protocols
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to follow SOPs and safety procedures, including use of PPE
