Job Title: Part-Time RF Signature Software Developer
Employment Type: Part-Time, 8-20 hours per week (maximum 24 hours based on project demand)
Location: Columbia, MD, Hybrid
SEG, a subsidiary of Astrion, is seeking a Part-Time RF Signature Software Developer to support the development and integration of RF signature modeling and simulation capabilities. The successful candidate will develop software solutions for computational electromagnetic simulations, create compressed numerical models for real-time applications, and contribute to the delivery of simulation tools for government customers.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Active US DoD SECRET clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain)
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 3-7 years of relevant software development experience
- Proficiency in C++, Python, and MATLAB, with experience integrating these languages for simulation development
- Mathematical background in linear algebra, differential equations, numerical methods, and statistics
- Familiarity with electromagnetic theory and RF/IR technology fundamentals
- Experience in software development, including coding, debugging, and optimization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently within a part-time schedule and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Active US DoD SECRET clearance (or higher)
- Master's or PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science
- Advanced proficiency in numerical computing and signal processing using MATLAB
- Experience with computational electromagnetic simulation tools and frameworks
- Familiarity with integrating C++ libraries with Python (NumPy, SciPy) for high-performance simulations
- Experience with software version control systems (Git) and collaborative development tools
- Familiarity with Atlassian tool suite (Confluence, JIRA)
- Experience implementing machine learning models for data analysis
- Experience analyzing large datasets from physics or engineering simulations
- Familiarity with Linux systems and high-performance computing (HPC) environments
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods
- Prior experience working with US Navy or MDA simulation requirements
Work Schedule
- Part-time position with variable hours ranging from 8-20 hours per week, with a maximum of 24 hours per week based on project demand and integration activities
- Flexible scheduling coordinated with the team to meet project deadlines and deliverables
- Hybrid work arrangement with remote work capabilities
- On-site presence required: Candidate must be available for travel to Columbia, MD office 1-2 times per month as determined by project requirements and team collaboration needs
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate RF signature modeling software using C++, Python, and MATLAB, ensuring seamless interoperability between platforms
- Run computational electromagnetic simulations in high-performance computing (HPC) environments and analyze resulting datasets
- Create high-quality numerical models of simulation outputs utilizing established processes and procedures
- Enhance existing simulations by adding new capabilities to meet evolving customer requirements
- Develop software solutions for real-time Hardware in the Loop (HWIL) simulation applications
- Collaborate with engineers and software developers to design, code, test, and optimize simulation solutions
- Document code, integration processes, and simulation workflows for clarity and reproducibility
- Support technical reviews and customer briefings for both internal and external stakeholders
- Occasionally support integration activities on customer site
