Fairview Health Services is hiring a Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Float Pool Teams at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital located in Edina, MN! This would be a shared position between the two units, with 0.6 FTE supporting ICU and 0.4 FTE supporting the Float Pool. This is a full time salaried position. The Fairview Southdale Hospital is an award winning multispecialty health care system in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. It is comprised of more than 40 specialty services, using innovative technologies and treatments with the art of medicine.

The Intensive Care Unit cares for critically ill patients 18 years and older. We see approximately 8-10 open heart surgical patients per week as well as other major surgical patients, acute respiratory failure, OD / withdrawal, medical and surgical neuro and minimal trauma. We provide Telemedicine ICU services for the system and take care of patients with IABP, Impella, and CRRT. However, we do transfer patients requiring LVAD or ECMO to the University of MN. The ICU is a 23 bed unit with an average daily census of 20-21 patients. The ICU is staffed by 150 employees made up of RNs and Nursing Assistants.

The Float Pool team is comprised of 150 highly skilled RN's and Nursing Assistants that float to the Orthopedic, Neuro, Medical/Tele unit, Cardiac Telemetry, Observation, Surgical, Medical/Oncology, Neuroscience, Intermediate Care, ICU and the Emergency Department, as well as several specialty units including Post Partum and Empath.

Job Responsibilities

The Patient Care Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Managers of ICU and Float Pool with department operations. This nursing leadership position includes supervision of personnel and projects as delegated, including but not limited to human resources management, nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities.

  • Partners with ICU and Float Pool Managers to supervise/manage day-to-day or shift-to-shift operations to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.
  • Assists Managers to plan, manage, coordinate and evaluate patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
  • Prioritizes assignments to assure timely, productive, and efficient use of resources.
  • Assists Managers to manage equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.
  • Collaborates with Nursing, Provider leadership and other stakeholders to implement and evaluate standards of practice.
  • Collects and analyzes quality data and utilizes process improvement methodology to ensure delivery of safe and quality patient care.
  • Assists with department change and acts as a change agent for system change, procedure change and process changes.
  • Demonstrates skills/abilities in provision of patient care
  • Ensures unit protocols, benchmarks, and hospital procedures are initiated appropriately.
  • Assists Managers to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assists Managers with human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Advocates for patient, family and staff needs.
  • Drives improvement activities that promote patient centered care and positive customer experience.
  • Assists Managers to ensure staff compliance in areas of job requirements, education and clinical competency.
  • Promotes a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education and research.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. If Master’s degree is in nursing or healthcare, Bachelor’s degree in other area of study will be accepted.
  • Two years nursing experience, at least one of which in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role. Knowledge of patient population served in area of responsibility.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse. Ability to obtain Minnesota nursing license at time of hire.
  • BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing, health care administration, business administration or related field.
  • Three years or more nursing experience.
  • One year of current ICU RN experience.
  • ANCC or AONL Certification
