A Hospice Massage Therapist provides specialized massage therapy services to hospice patients, focusing on comfort, pain relief, and enhancing quality of life during end-of-life care. This role involves working closely with an interdisciplinary hospice team to address the unique physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

Responsibilities
- Deliver professional massage and body treatments according to hospice protocols and accepted certification practices.
- Assess, evaluate, and establish individualized massage therapy plans and goals for each patient, in alignment with their plan of care.
- Provide comfort touch massage to hospice patients in their homes or care facilities, adapting techniques to the patient’s condition and preferences.
- Communicate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team (including nurses, social workers, and physicians) to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Educate patients and families about the benefits and limitations of massage therapy for symptom management and comfort.
- Uphold standards of sanitation, sterilization, and safety in all patient interactions.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of treatments, patient responses, and relevant observations in patient records.
- Address patient and family questions and concerns with professionalism and compassion.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and ongoing training as required.
- Perform aromatherapy during massage visits if requested and approved, as trained.
- Flexible scheduling to meet patient needs, including potential evening or weekend hours.
- Work may be performed in patients’ homes, hospice facilities, or residential care settings.
- Must be able to travel within the assigned service area as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred.
- Valid and current massage therapy license/certification as required by state law.
- Minimum of five years of therapeutic massage experience preferred, with experience in hospice, palliative, geriatric, or medical massage settings highly desirable.
- Experience working with geriatric and terminally ill populations.
- Ability to accept and respect diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
- Proficiency with computers and electronic documentation systems.
- Compassionate, adaptable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
