Summary of Work

The Chief of Investigations manages and provides oversight and training for DOCR investigation activities. This position is responsible for all criminal investigations for DOCR’s Division of Juvenile Services and Division of Adult Services and is liaison to other government, law enforcement, corrections, and community agencies. In addition, this position works with the Chief Human Resources Officer on internal employee investigations of serious misconduct and any other investigation authorized by the DOCR Director.

Manages the DOCR Emergency Management Response Plan by coordinating overall emergency planning activities, along with coordinating response plans with federal, state, and local governments. This position reviews division emergency response plans, employing best practices emergency management concepts and strategic methodologies.

Serves as the DOCR Risk Management Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree with a major in a behavioral science, and six years of work experience directly interacting with offenders in a correctional, law enforcement, or social work setting that included supervision of staff or progressively more responsible correctional work experience. Also requires eligibility for licensure as a North Dakota Peace Officer in accordance with North Dakota Century Code Chapter 12-63. The incumbent shall attend basic peace officer training program recognized by the ND Peace Officer and Training Board (POST Board) ensuring authorization to perform peace officer duties in accordance with North Dakota Century Code 12-59-20.

Preference will be given to applicants with ND DOCR prior work experience and/or a current ND Peace Officer license and experience with criminal investigations.
