Opportunity Overview

The Insurance Products area is responsible for managing all life insurance, long-term care and disability income insurance products for Edward Jones. The team leads and coordinates insurance product and distribution strategy for the firm, drives the product lines and product/distribution partner relationships, and ensures there is adequate support for insurance products via external wholesaling. The team applies innovation and the application of subject matter expertise, in order to ensure that branch teams have a consistent supply of high quality insurance products to meet the needs of our clients.

Responsibility Summary :

  1. Work closely with Senior Product Leader and/or General Partner to develop and execute the firm's Insurance product strategy to ensure branch teams have quality products and support needed to help clients achieve their financial goals.
  2. Design and develop innovative Insurance products that align with firm advice and guidance in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Determine the data, insights and analysis needed to inform product strategy and development.
  3. Responsible for Insurance product partner relationships of significant size, complexity, number or impact in order to:
  • manage and maintain their portfolio of products including making recommendations to add / remove / change products or product partners as needed.
  • shape and drive execution of business plans that align with firm strategic direction
  • ensure that product literature and wholesaling support is effective (quantity and quality), aligned with key firm messages, and compliant. Assist in the design of efficient and effective ongoing processes and controls.
  • influence the design and development of integrated platforms, systems, tools and processes that create a better client and branch team experience
  • resolve complex / broad product partner issues as escalated. Determine root cause and apply systems thinking to prevent future occurrences.
  • regularly interface with product partner peer contacts (Eg. key account managers, product managers, national sales managers, and operational leaders)
  • assist in the coordination and alignment of product partner relationship management activities above across all Insurance product partners
  1. Serve as a subject matter expert for the Insurance product line for the firm. Includes advanced knowledge of multiple product partner products, features, benefits, pricing, etc. and their relative positioning in the marketplace. Insurance products include Term, VUL, UL, Disability and LTC.
  2. Understand and interpret rules and potential rule changes in the tax, legal and regulatory environment for the product line; make recommendations that help shape the firm position with respect to tax, legal and regulatory issues for these products/programs.
  3. Leads significant additional responsibilities specific to the team or area (Eg. recruiting, training, product partner coordination, wholesaler effectiveness)
  4. Lead broad division, firm, or industry initiatives and events as needed to represent the product line in alignment with firm strategy (Eg. cross-divisional projects, internal committees, product partner events, regional events, industry groups, etc.)
  5. Develop and recommend risk mitigation strategies to ensure continuity and effectiveness of the product line while minimizing risk to clients and the firm.
  6. Mentor team members and assist in the ongoing development of their subject matter expertise.

Position Requirements

Qualifications Required in the Job:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree required with quantitative discipline preferred (Eg. finance, economics, accounting, math, engineering, actuarial science, etc.).

Series 7, 66 and State life/health license required within 12 months of hire.

Advanced degree or relevant industry designation(s) preferred.

e.g. ASA, FSA, CFA, CFP, CLU, ChFC, CPA, etc.

Years of Experience:

Generally, 10+ years of relevant financial services experience, Insurance experience preferred.

Functional Knowledge:

  • Deep subject matter expertise in product line products
  • Exceptional technical aptitude and analytical skills
  • Highly collaborative
  • Highly effective written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Advanced proficiency with systems and tools including MS Office, Tableau and databases

Problem Solving:

Problems faced by associates in this role tend to be advanced, complex and unstructured. Achieve results independently and occasionally through others.

Decision Making:

The decisions in this position are high in impact.

Span of Influence:

The span of influence in this position is high. Regularly interface with associates and leaders in Branch Development, Compliance, Finance, Legal, Products, Product Review, Operations, Service and Solutions.

Candidates that live within in a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday.

Salary Information

Edward Jones' compensation and benefits package includes medical and prescription drug, dental, vision, voluntary benefits (such as accident, hospital indemnity, and critical illness), short- and long-term disability, basic life, and basic AD&D coverage. Short- and long-term disability, basic life, and basic AD&D coverage are provided at no cost to associates. Edward Jones offers a 401k retirement plan, and tax-advantaged accounts: health savings account, and flexible spending account. Edward Jones observes ten paid holidays and provides 15 days of vacation for new associates beginning on January 1 of each year, as well as sick time, personal days, and a paid day for volunteerism.
