Job Summary
LABORATORY TECHNICIAN. The Plattner Lab, within the Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences and Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky is seeking applications for a research technician position (30-40h/week) in an established cancer research program aimed at understanding how melanoma spreads throughout the body and identifying new treatment regimens to prevent or reverse resistance to conventional therapies. Examples of publications from the laboratory can be found at Nat Comm (2020) 11:5463; and Cancers (2023)15(3), 954.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Principal Investigator, postdoctoral scholars, research scientists, and students in the laboratory working on ongoing research projects. The successful applicant will learn laboratory techniques, keep a laboratory notebook, contribute to study design and laboratory publications. The job will also provide experience in communication including writing portions of manuscripts and presenting data to the group. Some techniques that may be learned include proliferation, survival, invasion, and apoptosis assays, western blotting, mammalian cell culture, transfection, gene silencing, lentiviral infection for gene silencing and overexpression, as well as the potential to be involved in animal studies that involve assessing the effects of drugs on tumor growth in mice, and examining the role of the immune system and tumor microenvironment on response to drug treatments.
