Job Summary

The Executive Director for HealthCare Communications/UKHC serves as the senior strategist and advisor for all UK HealthCare communications efforts, including the communication of a $1.6 billion facility plan, strategic initiatives, and executive messaging. This role develops and leads comprehensive communication strategies that promote UK HealthCare’s mission, vision, and reputation across internal and external audiences. The Executive Director partners closely with UK Public Relations, Executive Communications, Human Resources, and health-related colleges to ensure alignment and consistency across platforms. Responsibilities include executive communication support, brand and message development, crisis communications, and multi-channel content strategy. The role also oversees a high-performing communications team and manages an annual communications budget. Success in this position requires leadership, strategic planning, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex, matrixed academic medical environment.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge in all Microsoft programs as well as most CMS platforms; experience in publication, video, events, programming, and most forms of communication a must; have the ability to lead others, taking into account divergent demands while managing scope and timelines; demonstrates strong analytical and qualitative research experience; be well organized; have exceptional communication skills (written & verbal); strong ability to engage and motivate others; active listening skills; enjoy working independently as well as in a group; and a thorough understanding of resource and employee management.
