Assistant Legislative Analyst

The Suffolk County Legislature’s Budget Review Office currently has a need for an Assistant Legislative Analyst.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in analyzing the fiscal and programmatic effects of the Suffolk County Executive's proposed operating and capital budgets;
  • Participates in a team effort involving research and analysis for a special project;
  • Meets with department heads and their representatives, collecting data, analyzing the data and preparing a written report of findings and recommendations;
  • Researches a variety of issues of importance to the Legislature: such as organizational structures, program costs and benefits, impacts of budgetary changes and the status of federal and state legislation or funding;
  • Prepares fiscal impact statements and attends Legislative committee meetings.

Salary Range: $ $54,437 - $88,528

OPEN COMPETITIVE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A) Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Master's Degree

OR

B) Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience in the analysis of programs, research, management, finance, personnel, policy and/or budgeting, one year of which must have been in the public sector or government

OR

C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by A) and B).

Additional Required Skills:

Ability to use and create spreadsheets, good written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills, the ability to interpret and explain data.

Location: Hauppauge

Schedule:

First Year: Monday – Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm

After The First Year: Monday – Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm or 9:00am - 5:00pm

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment

A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
