PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Assistant/Associate Superintendent of Educational Services or designee, the Teacher on Special Assignment Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) forms with classroom teachers and arts partners and assists them in curriculum development, classroom management, instructional strategies, assessment, and all aspects of their professional development in visual and performing arts: dance, music, theater, visual arts and media arts. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant/Associate Superintendent of Educational Services or designee.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Assistant/Associate Superintendent of Educational Services or designee, the Teacher on Special Assignment Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) forms with classroom teachers and arts partners and assists them in curriculum development, classroom management, instructional strategies, assessment, and all aspects of their professional development in visual and performing arts: dance, music, theater, visual arts and media arts. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant/Associate Superintendent of Educational Services or designee.

Comments and Other Information PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides planned VAPA experiences in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction. Collaborates in the selection of appropriate projects/activities throughout the District, and supports coordination of grade-specific participation in annual shows, fairs, performances and/or presentations. Maintains instructional records and notifies parents of student’s progress based on VAPA standards. Organizes VAPA workshops for classroom teachers. Assists and/or helps train classroom teachers in methods for the teaching of VAPA in the classroom. Helps provide and distribute materials and resources for the teaching of VAPA in the classroom. Attends faculty. Contributes to the professional and educational advancement of the District. Communicate project-based learning tasks based on the VAPA Framework and Standards. Assists teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the content and learning strategies embedded in District’s VAPA plan. Plan, participate in and facilitate support and training activities for all teachers based on the District’s VAPA plan. Acquires the skills necessary for using observation-based formative assessment reports to develop increasingly positive performances in the skills, abilities, and knowledge outlined in the VAPA Framework and Standards as evaluated by administrator designee. Spend a minimum of 2 days a week in classrooms providing resources and support as needed or requested. Work with Human Resources to request and acquire sub time as needed. Maintain a virtual or digital platform for resources and materials. Attend necessary regional and state-wide trainer-of-trainer workshops and other VAPA trainings and events as requested. Collaborate with instructional coaches, other district TOSAS and principals in order to support the all teachers with implementation of VAPA standards. Engage in part–time instructional coaching and facilitation of GLTs. Plans all tasks and projects based on the eleven (11) VAPA Anchor Standards: 1) Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work. 2) Organize and develop artistic ideas and work. 3) Define and complete artistic work. 4) Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation. 5) Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation. 6)Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work. 7) Perceive and analyze artistic work. 8) Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work. 9) Apply criteria to evaluate artistic work. 10) Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art. 11) Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding. Instructs students in fundamentals of music with emphasis on vocal music skills. Performs tasks and assumes responsibilities as may be assigned. Comments and Other Information
