Test Lab Engineer

SUMMARY

The successful candidate will have a strong background in testing, a basic knowledge of aluminum or carbon parts manufacturing, and enjoy hands-on mechanical work. The test lab engineer will perform static and dynamic tests to evaluate if all design criteria are met before production approval. In addition, he/she will assist in the development of future tests, evaluation of tested components, or any non-conformities discovered in testing. As a member of a small team, you will be expected to ‘wear many hats’ as we work together to develop industry-leading bikes!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

SBC test lab development and day to day running.

  • Coordinate testing requirements with development team including test request setup, test priority, required fixtures and procedures.
  • Perform daily testing including setup, tear down and report writing documenting all results and failure locations.
  • Organize all test items for future inspection and analysis.
  • Ensure that all machines receive proper maintenance to obtain reliable test results and ensure the machine life is maximized.
  • Determine all test lab fixtures and tool requirements to optimize efficiency and throughput. Work with SBCMH and SBCT test labs to source and order items as needed based on capacity and demand.
  • Work with SBCMH / SBCT test lab to determine the development of any new tests or test fixtures required to be performed at SBCVN lab.
  • Work with the NPI engineering team to generate test requirements for new projects, set up test projects in the test tracking system, and oversee the test results from prototype phase to production phase.
  • Educate SBCVN employees in other departments as required about test standards, results and logic behind the tests.
  • Work with supplier test lab to identify differences in fixtures and procedures and develop correction plans to correlate testing results.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO WIN

  • College degree in technical subjects (B.S. in engineering).
  • Minimum 2 years in testing or manufacturing role, including:

o Experience setting up and running tests with ability to follow documented procedures, operate and adjust machinery and fixtures as required.

o Experience in basic manufacturing processes such as stamping, forging, extrusion, tube forming, heat treatment, injection molding, casting, welding alloy structures, machining of alloys or composites.

o Ability to interpret test results and suggest solutions if part does not meet requirements.

  • Proven experience creating and reading 2 dimensional drawings. You may also be required to modify or create new drawings or parts for new test fixtures. GD&T knowledge is a plus.
  • Familiarity with part inspection including basic handheld inspection tools and CMM for first article inspection. You will need to inspect fixtures and tools to make sure they meet drawing dimensions and tolerance.
  • Basic experience in hydraulic machine maintenance.
  • Excellent spoken and written English (Vietnamese and/or Chinese are a plus).
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities with limited supervision.
  • This position requires full time residency near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with some travel to Taiwan and the USA.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PTC/Creo or AutoCAD. With the ability to learn StarLIMS and Agile PLM softwares.
  • Avid cyclist and a good bike mechanic preferred.
