Compensation
Salary Ranges: $77,960 -$ 110,360 (Grade G/HAYO 393)
This is UTLO -compression rate - $ 112,818
Responsibilities
The Superintendent will manage staff and work as part of a team responsible for planning subway service for permanent operations, for temporary operations to accommodate capital work and maintenance, and/or for special events and emergencies. Responsibilities may include:
- Planning and coordinating track access for work undertaken in the subway by MTA Construction and Development (C&D), NYCT Maintenance of Way, New York City DOT, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and other clients.
- Designing and preliminarily identifying implementation dates for service plans for diversions on the subway right-of-way. These plans include information on train operations, substitute bus operations, ridership, conductor announcements, special signs and special duties of operating departments, especially Stations and Service Delivery.
- Ensuring that the track access needs of the on-going non-capital projects are met in conjunction with C&D and Track Construction goals while, at the same time, minimizing passenger inconvenience.
- Developing service design and service frequency recommendations based on ridership demand, operational factors, and infrastructure constraints.
- Evaluating capital improvement proposals based on passenger demand, operational factors, and infrastructure requirements.
- Preparing fleet plans and forecasts.
- Supervising quantitative analyses and simulations evaluating current and proposed subway operations and proposed capital investments, such as CBTC signaling and infrastructure improvements.
- Observing and reporting on service, including estimating train loads.
- Coordinating the work of multiple groups within the agency to ensure smooth operational implementation and accurate public information and outreach for long-term service changes.
- Monitoring the impacts of the service plans and recommending and coordinating service adjustments as necessary.
Education and Experience
1. A Baccalaureate degree in Public Administration, Economics, Urban Planning,
Transportation Planning or Engineering or a closely related field and four (4) years of full time professional work experience in large rapid transit operations, two (2) years of which must have been in a managerial/ supervisory capacity, or 2. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
Desired Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Knowledge of the New York City subway system and NYC geography and neighborhoods
- Knowledge of NYCT train operations
- Familiarity with NYCT track access procedures, signal prints, and TAMS database
- Proficiency in working with large datasets, spreadsheet analysis, and statistical analysis
- Proficiency with SQL or similar database analysis languages is desirable
- Experience and familiarity with transit planning practices and rail operations concepts is desirable
