Nutrition Navigator Details

Essential Job Duties:

  • Knowledge of the social determinants of health and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and wellness programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to utilize technology to improve program quality, service and efficiency.
  • Knowledge and ability to support health and nutrition education and wellness initiatives.
  • Ability to apply marketing techniques to promote the program.
  • Coordinates with: Local Health and Nutrition Agencies, Community Groups, Building Administrators, Local Businesses, Teachers, Students, Parents and Vendors
  • Provide oversight of interns.
  • Provides leadership in implementing community-wide nutrition programs that focuses on VCSC faculty, students, families and the neighborhoods in which they reside.
  • Act as a resource for students and families for the purpose of providing health and physical activity information and listening to concerns.
  • Works to create social, physical, and economic environments that promote attaining full potential for the health and well-being of children and their families.
  • Work with the Director to establish measurable program goals and annual objectives.
  • Assesses trends and current research to assure development in improving health and nutrition outcomes for VCSC students and their families.
  • Communicate in person, on the phone, in school presentations with parents for the purpose of exchanging health and nutrition information.
  • Provide support and resources for parents for the purpose of improving student health and school attendance.
  • Works closely with school personnel in supporting students and their families.

Qualifications:

  • The ability to work respectfully with a variety of children, families, VCSC staff, and community partners in complex situations.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and people skills.
  • BA/BS degree in nutrition, public health, health education, or K-12 education.
