Title: Payroll Director

Location: Reston, VA

Pay: $150,000-$180,000/Yearly

Addison Group's client is searching for a Payroll Director. This role is hybrid in Reston, VA. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the Government Contracting industry + 10+ years of payroll and leadership experience. This role is direct hire with a salary in the $150-180K range. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of payroll operations, including multi-state and federal payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contract requirements, including DCAA, FAR, DFARS, FLSA, IRS regulations, and state/local labor laws.
  • Oversee payroll system administration (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, ADP, UKG), including maintenance, upgrades, and integration with timekeeping and accounting systems.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, Accounting, and Compliance teams to support audits, internal controls, labor reporting, and cost allocations.
  • Manage payroll tax reporting, W-2 preparation, and year-end activities, ensuring accuracy and timely filings.
  • Evaluate and implement process improvements and automation strategies to increase payroll efficiency and accuracy.
  • Supervise and mentor payroll staff, providing leadership, training, and professional development.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll-related inquiries, policies, and procedures across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Previous experience in government contracting is required, including knowledge of DCAA compliance and cost allocation methodologies.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Deltek Costpoint, ADP, UKG, or other ERP systems commonly used in government contracting.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax laws, wage/hour laws, and garnishment procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is strongly preferred.
