ERM (Environmental Resources Management) is a leading global provider of environmental, health, safety, risk, and social consulting services. We are currently seeking a Senior Environmental Project Manager to join our team to help shape and support the growth of our Canadian Project Management Team. This position would ideally be based in one of our Canadian offices (e.g., Vancouver, Smithers, Whitehorse, Calgary, Saskatoon, Toronto, Ottawa), but would allow for flexibility and remote work from other locations. Applicants in other locations in Canada will also be considered.

As a Senior Project Manager with a passion for the environment you will be motivated by leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects and proposals for EAs/EISs, permit applications and management plans, strategic and annual planning, risk management, regulatory and engagement strategies, socio-economic strategies, and/ or environmental management systems.

You will represent ERM and play a key role helping to build our business and win new projects. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing projects in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and/or Nunavut related to provincial/territorial permitting and impact assessment processes. The successful candidate will become a leader in ERM Canada’s Project Management Team and will be connected with ERM’s regional team of environmental and social experts. Your big-picture thinking, and ability to build strong external and internal relationships based on trust and reciprocity will be valued.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on multiple projects and serve as Project Manager to produce deliverables that meet client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality while managing risks and implementing ERM’s quality standards for deliverables.
  • Provide project management leadership for projects advancing through provincial / territorial / federal environmental assessment and permitting processes. This includes working closely with ERM Partners, Technical Directors, and Project Managers to provide regulatory support to clients, lead internal technical teams, and support the timely delivery of quality products that fully meet the client and regulator’s requirements.
  • Contribute to overall success of Project Management Team through leading, managing performance, hiring and retention, inspiring and mentoring team members.
  • Actively contribute to ERM’s project management technical community and collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute projects.
  • Use project management tools and controls to manage project performance and mitigate risk.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide.
  • Partake in ERM internal and external training opportunities to maintain and grow work-related skills and remain current on changes to regulatory requirements.
  • Actively embrace and support ERM’s leading health and safety training and workplace environment.
  • Think critically and strategically, helping to influence the impact of our work within our team, and positive outcomes for our clients.
  • Liaise with accounting teams to support timely submission and payment of client invoices.
  • Proactively and collaboratively work across ERM teams to secure project team resources.
  • Contribute to business development of ERM’s service areas. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective proposals, including development of scopes and cost estimates, and take an active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients.

Qualifications and desirable skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in sciences, environment, business, engineering or a related field. Or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years (6+ years preferred) of related experience, ideally with experience in environmental consulting services, environmental impact assessment, or equivalent industry experience within relevant business sectors.
  • Experience delivery of complex, large projects and programs across sectors (such as oil and gas, ports, marine, mining, renewables, etc.).
  • High integrity with negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate ERM values related to risk management and become a safety ambassador.
  • Experience and confidence to effectively address client needs and develop/ maintain client relationships.
  • Experience working with the provincial/territorial and federal regulatory agencies, Indigenous groups, and the public.
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management approaches/tools; capability with Primavera P6 is an asset.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness in the workplace.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and keen interest and ability to learn new skills and knowledge, applying and integrating on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborating naturally, are dependable and flexible.
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups, particularly in the context of regulatory processes, including the use of Indigenous knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience with community and stakeholder engagement is an asset.
  • English is required and fluency in multiple languages (e.g., Indigenous languages, French) is an asset.
  • Proven experience supporting clients with assessment leadership and provincial/territorial permitting processes in British Columbia, Alberta, Nunavut or Ontario is an asset.

For the Senior Environmental Project Manager position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $93,000 – $103,831 (CAD). An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
