Job Description
Ohio University’s School of Theater invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Instruction of Musical Theater position beginning August 16, 2025.
With alumni working in arts industries worldwide, the School of Theater has built its reputation on the development of individual artistic capacity. We strive to encourage our students to realize their own unique potential and vision, and values process-based methodologies that prepare students to be theater innovators for the 21st century. The School of Theater is comprised of twenty-six faculty and staff who support over 200 undergraduates and 30 graduate students. We are a professional training program with BFA degrees in Performance (tracks in Musical Theater and Acting), Playwriting, Stage Management, and Production Design & Technology, a BA degree in Theater, and MFA degrees in Acting, Directing, and PD&T. We produce a full season of shows each academic year and are proud to host Tantrum Theater, Ohio University’s professional theater, as well as Vibrancy Theater.
The successful candidate will teach in the BFA Musical Theater track in close collaboration with the BFA Acting track. Teaching load would include a vocal music roster of MT students in individual, weekly classes. Additional duties might include music theory, dictation, sight singing, acting through song, with the potential to direct plays and musicals.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership for young and vibrant musical theater program.
Collaborate with faculty and guest artists, in both performance and production areas.
Work with the performance faculty to re-develop the curriculum.
Determine, select, and organize facilities, equipment, and materials necessary for learning
Serve on school, college and university committees.
Prepare course syllabi, in-class activities, exams, class handouts, online materials, audiovisual materials, etc., as needed.
This position is a one year assignment with potential for renewal.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate degree in theater or music.
Experience teaching voice or musical theater at the university level.
Effective collaborative, organizational and interpersonal skills with students, faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Terminal performance degree in theater or music.
Extensive knowledge of both traditional and contemporary musical theater repertoire
