The Applications Developer III serves as a technical leader on complex software development projects within a Linux/Unix-based academic/experimental computing environment. This role spans the full application lifecycle—from analysis and design to implementation, testing, and documentation. These include writing application interfaces, developing foundational application infrastructure, and specialized development. The incumbent is expected to appropriately and strategically apply AI tools to enhance productivity.
The position also involves general-purpose or "utility" programming in support of research and academic operations, such as performance benchmarking, code optimization, or testing capabilities and performance of esoteric computing environments. The developer will work closely with end users—including college administrative staff and computer science faculty—and will collaborate with technical professionals across various university departments. The Applications Developer III is also expected to mentor student employees, contribute to best practices, and adapt to the evolving demands of a dynamic academic setting.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training, and four years of IT related work experience, OR
Bachelor's degree with no specific required field and five years of IT related work experience, OR
Master's degree and three years of IT related work experience, OR
Combination of eight years of IT related work experience and validated training.
Preferred Requirements
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
