One (1) Part-time (20 hours/week), school-term only (185 days/year position). A school-term only (STO) employee is hired for a specific work calendar and may not have an assignment during the school/academic break.
This position is grant funded and funding is reviewed on a yearly basis. Hours are subject to change after appointment dependent upon grant status.
For the Child Development & Family Studies Department, under direction of the Program Coordinator, the 2615 School Lunchroom Helper will prepare and oversee meal service to the children at the Mission Center.
Positions may involve exposure to extreme temperature conditions and chemicals while working in a noisy environment; standing for long periods of time; bending, crouching and reaching. Most positions require ability to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs to waist level.
Job Duties
1. Assist in the daily preparation of Breakfast, Lunch and Snack.
2. Be Familiar with nutritional and food preparation needs of children.
3. Prepare a variety of foods according to menu plans; Develop menus in compliance with Child Care Food Program guidelines.
4. Estimate food needs and shopping if necessary. Organize food orders based on approved menu plans and program needs, including online orders.
5. Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and serving areas, including washing all serving equipment and utensils, sweeping and mopping floors, and emptying garbage.
6. Maintain inventory of food and cooking/kitchen supplies.
7. Keep accurate records, inventories, and prepare needed reports. Including industry standards regarding food safety and storage.
8. Receive and store supplies weighing up to 50lbs.
9. Operate washing machine and dryer.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by Program Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Requires possession of high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Requires six (6) months of routine kitchen work experience including
use of a computer and point of sale software.
License and Certification:
Requires possession and maintenance of a current Food Safety certification.

Desirable Qualifications
1. Knowledge of nourishing and healthy food preparation for growing children.
2. Ability to follow Child Care Food Program guidelines and requirements.
3. Bilingual Spanish/Cantonese.
Benefits
New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust (RHCTF).
