Scope of Position:

The Clinical Laboratories at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center encompass 10 CLIA/CAP-certified labs, including clinical chemistry, toxicology, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, flow cytometry, and point-of-care testing (POCT). These labs support the clinical missions of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, providing highly complex diagnostic testing and innovative solutions to advance patient care. The labs are recognized for their excellence in delivering accurate and timely results, supporting outreach programs, multi-institution collaborations, and educational training for medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty.

The Senior Method Development Specialist will play a critical role in advancing the capabilities of these labs by leading, but not limited to, method development, validation, data analysis, and method comparison activities. This position requires collaboration with laboratory directors, lead techs, and technical staff across all 10 labs to ensure the successful implementation of new methodologies and technologies. The specialist will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with CAP/CLIA regulations, maintaining inspection readiness, and contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations. The 10 clinical labs operate on varying schedules, with most labs staffed Monday through Friday and some requiring weekend or extended hours to meet testing demands. Occasional flexibility in scheduling may be required to support laboratory needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

For Hire:

Required:

  • Minimum of Master's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years of laboratory experience, with demonstrated expertise in method development, validation, and data analysis.
  • Strong technical knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines: clinical chemistry, toxicology, hematology, microbiology, coagulation, fluorometry, or point-of-care testing (POCT).

Desired:

  • Experience with advanced laboratory techniques and instrumentation relevant to clinical testing (e.g., mass spectrometry, immunoassays, or spectrophotometry).
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, SQL databases, or statistical analysis tools).
  • Prior experience in developing and validating testing methodologies.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across diverse laboratory disciplines.
